Our second installment with International Scouting Services (ISS) takes a look at Seth Jones, currently of the Western Hockey League’s Portland Winterhawks. Jones has been seen as a top prospect for some time now, but he really hit the radar at the 2013 IIHF World Juniors where he helped lead the United States to gold over the defending champion, Sweden. Take a look at the quick hits that ISS lead scout, Dennis MacInnis was able to provide on Seth Jones.
Penalty Box Radio: Briefly describe what makes his skill-set unique from others in the draft.
Dennis MacInnis: Complete package defender. Has poise, confidence, size, offense, defense, instinct and leadership. He’s everything you could want in a franchise defender.
PBR: What three teams that did not make the playoffs could benefit most from him and why?
DM: Colorado – Learned to play on their ice, fits with their young core well.
Philadelphia – He’s the franchise defender they have been trying so hard to find
Edmonton – He is exactly what they need to stabilize their D and fits with their young core perfectly
PBR: What current NHL player would Jones be similar to once he reaches his prime?
DM: Cross of a Rob Blake/Nik Lidstrom, there really isn’t a player in the league right now that resembles him
PBR: What ability does Seth Jones have that would strike fear in his opponents?
DM: Size, speed and mobility and still maturing physically.
PBR: Can you see him playing immediately in the 2013-2014 NHL season?
DM: Yes
