5 Burning Questions: Jonathan Drouin

Jonathan DrouinWe continue our look into the top prospect of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft with International Scouting Services by looking at Jonathan Drouin. The Halifax Mooseheads winger scored 105 points during the 2012-2013 regular season and 35 points during the playoffs.  ISS currently has him ranked as 3rd in their top 30. We spoke with lead scout Dennis MacInnis to get his insight on Drouin.

Penalty Box Radio: Briefly describe what makes Jonathan Drouin’s skill-set unique from others in the draft.

Dennis MacInnis: Outstanding play-maker with eyes in the back of his head and the ability to amplify the skill sets of those around him.

PBR: What three teams that did not make the playoffs could benefit most from drafting Drouin and why?

DM: Tampa Bay – In one word, Stamkos, in more words – He’s the potential easy transition replacement for when Martin St. Louis decides to hang them up.

Calgary – Flames haven’t had a play-maker like this since they let St. Louis slip through their fingers

Buffalo – They have found themselves with a wealth of young offensive prospects who could use a play-maker in Drouin’s mold

PBR: What current NHL player would Drouin be similar to once he reaches his prime?

DM: Martin St. Louis

PBR: What ability does Drouin have that would strike fear into opponents?

DM: Creative passing ability and near impossible to keep in check

PBR: Can you see him playing immediately in the 2013-2014 NHL season?

DM: Yes, but waiting another year or two would be recommended.
