Post game reaction from Frank Misuraca and head coach Mike Corbett
The University of Alabama in Huntsville Chargers broke a seven-game skid on Saturday night, fighting the Northern Michigan Wildcats to a 1-1 draw at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama.
Junior goaltender Carmine Guerriero made 36 saves on 37 shots in his 65 minute performance, while opposing freshman netminder Atte Tolvanen saved 27 of 28 UAH shots.
Northern Michigan’s John Siemer opened scoring, beating Guerrero 4:08 into the second period to put the Wildcats up 1-0. The Chargers earned the equalizer in exactly two minutes into the third period as senior defenseman Frank Misuraca slipped a backhander past Tolvanen.
In a relatively clean game, the Chargers finished 0-2 on the power play, while the Wildcats were scoreless in their lone attempt with the man-advantage.
Saturday night’s game marked the first time since October 31 that UAH had not lost a game, as they had fallen in seven straight since a 5-0 win at Lake Superior. It was also the first time in seven home games that the Chargers did not lose, dating back to a tie against Alaska-Anchorage on October 23.
UAH is still winless in their last eight games. The Chargers have also not won in their last eight home games, with the last – and only – home win this season coming in the opening series against Connecticut on October 10.
The Chargers tie earned a point in the standings and moved them into ninth place in the WCHA, ahead of Alaska via the goals-for tiebreaker. UAH is now four points behind Bemidji State, who sit in the final WCHA playoff spot.
