Following a 7-0 defeat the night before to the Bowling Green Falcons, the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers were looking to bounce back against the only team they have been able to defeat all season. In five Friday games this season, UAH has lost by five- goals. On those five following Saturdays, they have only lost by one goal (thanks to UAH Hockey for that stat). The Chargers were looking to go further with that trend by answering the loss with a win. After finishing two periods of play down 4-1, the Chargers did not allow a third period goal however, they were not able to score, losing 4-1.
The first period did not begin the way Coach Mike Corbett wanted it, as the Mike Sullivan tallied the first goal of the period after only 21 seconds had elapsed for the Falcons. Multiple chances were exchanged by each team, but UAH was not able to get on the board until late in the second period. Shots were actually fairly even, as the Chargers caught up to the Falcons during the second period. Of note for Bowling Green is that Dan DeSalvo posted a three-point night, giving him 72 points for his career.
Goals:
Bowling Green: 1st – Mike Sullivan (2), 2nd – Brent Tate (8), Dan DeSalvo (6), Rusty Hafner (1)
Alabama-Huntsville: Stephen McKenna (2) from Steven Koshey and Craig Pierce
Game notes:
- Even being down by three mid-way through the third, UAH still playing physical and protecting the goaltender. They may not win a lot of games this season, but they never seem to just give up.
- Nice giveaway tonight as UAH gave away mini hockey sticks
- A repeat winner from Friday night in chuck-a-puck
- UAH will play in a featured game on NBC Sports Network on Friday, January 10th when they talk on Notre Dame.
