UAH Chargers Fall to Bemidji State in game one of the series

The University of Huntsville Alabama Chargers returned to their home ice Thursday after a 39-day period of away games to face the Bemidji State Beavers of Minnesota, but fell 3-1.

Bemidji took the early lead with a power play goal scored by the Swedish freshman, Elias Rosen. Rosen was assisted by teammates Owen Sillinger and Nick Cardelli. The first period ended with a total of 4 minor penalties, 2 against each team.

To even up the score, sophomore Jack Jeffers netted his 5th goal of the season at the 4:36 mark of the second period. Jeffers was assisted by Connor Merkley. This period also totaled 4 more minor penalties, 3 for Bemidji and 1 for UAH.

At the 5:49 mark of the third period, Bemidji sophomore Alex Adams scored the game winning goal, assisted by Carter Jones and Hampus Sjodahl. After another UAH penalty and allowing Bemidji to have another power play opportunity, Elias Rosen was able to find the back of the net for the second time in this game, making it his 4th goal of the season. Rosen was assisted by Tommy Muck and Adam Brady. This made the final score of the first game in their matchup 3-1, in favor of Bemidji State.

Penalties were a big game changer, with 13 total minor penalties called in the game, seven against Bemidji and six against UAH, these additional opportunities gave a large percent of the game’s scoring chances.

The Chargers have another chance to claim a win at home on January 10th at 7:37 p.m. at the Von Braun Center’s Propst Arena.
