‘Twas the night before Hockey, when all through the lands
Everyone was stirring, the teams and their fans
The jerseys hung by the door with care
Knowing opening night soon would be there.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of goal-scoring-cellys, danced in their heads.
The Zambonis all polished, the ice all neat,
The defensemen all ready to patrol their beat.
With giant goaltenders, so agile and fast
Who would duel better, Rinne, Lundqvist, or Rask?
Faster than superman, flashing the leather
The fans yelled and cheered, they knew there was none better!
“Now Ovi! Now Pavel! Now Claude! Now Sydney!
On Marty! On Kaner! On Bobs! And on Whitney!
To the top shelf, on goal! To the back of the net
Heads on a swivel, the defense won’t fret
Will the Sharks attack?
Will the Blackhawks repeat?
Will the Bruins bounce back?
What teams will have us, on the edge of our seat?
Whether a Lightning storm or a King retaking their throne
One thing is for sure, if you’re near Torts, silence your phone.
And as Teemu takes his victory lap,
The crowds will applaud all across the map.
From Anaheim to Winnipeg, the ice sits ready
Our TVs await the pipes of Doc, Pierre and Eddie.
And finally from all of us Penalty Boxers, oh what a sight
As we exclaim Happy Hockey to all, and to all a goodnight!
