While the NHL and AHL playoffs are barely underway, European hockey leagues have largely wrapped up their seasons. And for three Preds prospects, those seasons ended with a championship under their belts.
In the KHL, Vladislav Yeryomenko and Metallurg Magnitogorsk won the club’s third-ever Gagarin Cup, defeating Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg, Spartak Moscow, and Amur Khabarovsk. Yeryomenko, who was mostly a depth defender for Magnitogorsk this season, appeared in 21 postseason contests and scored three assists while averaging just over 16 minutes of ice time each night.
The 2018 fifth-round pick is a KHL free agent this offseason and is unlikely to continue with the defending champions nor sign an entry-level deal with Nashville.
In the SHL, Anton Olsson and Skellefteå AIK dispatch Felix Nilsson and Rögle BK, Frölunda HC, and Linköping HC to capture the Swedish championship. Olsson had a tough season, between the SHL, the Finnish Liiga, and the HockeyAllsvenskan on various loans. He appeared in 14 playoff games and recorded just one point, but it was a major one; Olsson notched a primary assist on Skellefteå’s game-four overtime winner.
Olsson is also a free agent this summer, and it appears unlikely he’ll re-sign with Skellefteå. The defender has one more season of Nashville holding his exclusive negotiating rights.
In the Finnish Liiga, Kasper Kulonummi and Tappara won their third-straight league title; the 2022 third-round pick also won a U20 SM-sarja title with Tappara last year. Kulonummi skated in just one playoff game but appeared in 40 regular-season contests for the club, posting four assists in his first professional season.
Nashville has a couple more seasons to sign Kulonummi, but the blueliner is a Liiga free agent this summer. There’s been some reporting that he’ll sign with Kiekko-Espoo, which is joining Finland’s top division next year from the second-tier Mestis league.
