Two long-standing franchise figures for the Nashville Predators are headed to the Hall of Fame.
Shea Weber and David Poile have each been named members of the Hockey Hall of Fame’s 2024 class. The two will officially be inducted during a ceremony in Toronto in November.
Weber joins Paul Kariya and Peter Forsberg as the only Predators’ alumni in the hall of fame and becomes the first Preds’ draft pick to earn that honor. A 2003 second round pick, Weber’s keen awareness, physicality, and rocket slapshot earned him standing as one of the NHL’s best defensemen in the late 2000s and early to mid 2010s, while his leadership as captain helped stabilized the Preds through multiple transitional periods. Weber racked up a number of honors across his 11 years with the Preds, including five All-Star game appearances, two appearances on the year-end NHL All-Star first team, three Norris Trophy-finalist nods, and the 2016 Mark Messier Leadership award. Weber also earned two Olympic gold medals for Canada during his Predators’ tenure.
Poile, who will join the hall in the “Builders” category, joined the Predators organization in 1997 as the team’s first General Manager, a position he held until his retirement in 2023. He’s currently the winningest GM in NHL history, winning 1,533 games across 39 seasons with the Predators and Washington Capitals.
The two join former NHLers Pavel Datsyuk and Jeremy Roenick, women’s stars Natalie Darwitz and Krissy Wendell-Pohl, and long-time league executive Colin Campbell as members of the 2024 class.
