Roman Josi Named NHL’s First Star of the Week

On Monday NHL Public Relations announced that Roman Josi was named the First Star of the Week.

Josi has been outstanding for the Nashville Predators through their eight game win streak that began back on February 17 against the St Louis Blues, but his play over the last three games earned him First Star of the Week honors. In last week’s games against Ottawa, Minnesota, and Colorado, Josi scored three goals and four points while also earning a +7, the best +/- in the league last week.

Josi found out about the news at the end of Monday’s practice when Andrew Brunette announced the honor in front of the team and made Josi take a solo lap. Josi’s teammates cheered him on and rewarded him with stick taps as he took his celebratory lap.

Josi joked about the solo lap after practice.

“I feel like it’s more to make a guy uncomfortable because nobody likes the spotlight,” Josi said. “It’s a little fun.”

Josi was quick to share credit with his teammates for his recent success.

“We’re playing so well as a team and especially this home stand,” Josi said. “I almost feel like this home stand, we almost took it to another level. I feel like we were playing really fast, and all the teams we played we kind of wore them down and got better and better as the game went on.”

“I think it helps each guy when you play like that.”

Since the Predators began their eight game win streak, Josi has recorded 12 points and four goals. He has already surpassed last season’s statistics for assists and points and is fourth on the team so far this season in goals scored behind top line forwards Filip Forsberg, Ryan O’Reilly, and Gustav Nyquist.

Josi and his teammates hope to extend the win streak to nine tomorrow night as they take on the 23-28-10 Montreal Canadiens.
