Revisiting the Filip Forsberg – Martin Erat Trade Ten Years Later

April 3rd, 2013. It’s a day that stands as one of the most important – and perhaps most hilarious – days in Nashville Predators history. It’s the day the Predators acquired Filip Forsberg from the Washington Capitals for Martin Erat and Michael Latta.

Yes, believe it or not, it’s now been ten years since that fateful trade. We know the story by heart in Nashville. The trade is considered David Poile’s biggest fleece jobs in Nashville; it’s a deal that’s been put under the microscope by writers across the hockey-verse for the better part of a decade.

We know the story by heart. Forsberg went on to become the Predators’ all-time leading goal scorer, while Erat had nowhere near the impact the Capitals expected, and was subsequently traded away after just 2 goals in 66 total games. Caps fans still cringe at the very mention of Forsberg’s name, even with a Stanley Cup and an Alex Ovechkin record-chase to enjoy.

With that in mind, here’s some tweets to enjoy from that fateful day!

David Poile also weighed in on the deal. Did he know then it would be arguably the greatest trade he’s ever made?

And that’s what he got… a top young player.

Many people on Twitter jumped immediately on the “the Preds won this trade handedly” side of the argument.

No, Hardcord Hockey Talk, you are not the only one that thinks the Preds made out like bandits.

While there weren’t many people defending the Caps in this trade, there were a few!

In the end, Michael Latta was not a solid prospect.

Generally speaking, most of hockey twitter was apoplectic that the Caps traded away Filip Forsberg for Martin Erat.

But don’t worry, Smashville. There will always be takes like these to look back upon fondly.
