The Nashville Predators move to a five-game losing streak after suffering a 3-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night.
General Manager David Poile became the first GM in NHL history to reach 3,000 regular season games. However, his roster failed to secure the victory after allowing the Flyers to get ahead early.
The tale for the Predators goes like this: lead on the scoreboard but allow a third period comeback victory. On Saturday night, they avoided that fate by allowing two goals in the first period.
Travis Konecny sent the puck along the boards where it slipped past Kevin Hayes behind the net. With no sense of urgency, Ryan McDonagh could not clear the puck before Joel Farabee set Hayes up in the circle. Less than five minutes into the game, his shot found the back of the net to claim a 1-0 lead.
Just a few minutes later, Zack MacEwen scored his 10th NHL career goal to push a 2-0 lead. After Egor Zamula’s shot, MacEwen sent the rebound behind Juuse Saros.
Matt Borowiecki suffered an unfortunate and unintentional hit from Morgan Frost in the second period. Borowiecki’s head was down when Frost laid a hit, which caught his head in between the wall and Frost’s body. He laid motionless face-down on the ice for several minutes. He was given immediate medical attention as his teammates surrounded him. He was stretchered off the ice.
After play resumed, the crowd of Bridgestone Arena felt stiff.
With 12:16 left in the second period, Farabee scored a goal for his third point of the night. Hayes returned the favor with an assist on the Flyers’ third goal of the night.
Preds fans have seen their team give up two games in the third period so far this season. However, the lone goal was scored by Matt Duchene with just 2:18 left in the game. His 64th goal in gold gave the team some spark, but they were not able to put anything else behind Carter Hart.
The Predators will have a few days of a break from competitions before they host the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night.
