If you weren’t at Bridgestone Arena tonight, you missed out on the best hockey game of the season.
The Nashville Predators scored twice in the final 39 seconds—going from down 3-2 to up 4-3—to beat the Colorado Avalanche in dramatic fashion.
After Filip Forsberg whacked the game tying goal by Alexandar Georgiev with 38 seconds left, the game seemed headed for overtime. That is until Bowen Byram tried to bring the puck behind his own net in the final seconds, leading to a crazy bounce in front of the Avs net.
Cole Smith and Juuso Parssinen each had a swipe at the puck, but it was Yakov Trenin who swept it into the net, giving the Preds a 4-3 lead.
The 17,000 plus in attendance at Bridgestone promptly went bonkers, and they roared even louder when the final horn sounded.
But not everyone in the building was having such a great time!
Take a listen to how the final seconds of the game sounded to the broadcast team over at Altitude Sports, the Colorado Avalanche affiliate.
After sounding quite incredulous that Filip Forsberg could tie the game with 37 seconds left, the Colorado announcer’s mind was truly blown when Yakov Trenin scored the go ahead goal.
“Off the end glass, loose puck! Oh no! Shot, save, score! Oh my goodness gracious, I can’t believe it. The Predators have taken a 4-3 lead as Alexandar Georgiev breaks his stick over the crossbar…”
For as often as the Avalanche have beaten the Predators in the regular season and playoffs over the last few years, I suppose it’s not surprising the Avs faithful would be shocked at this outcome.
But Nashville played a heck of a game against Colorado tonight. It was no one sided affair. The Preds out-shot and out-chanced the Avs at even strength, though they did lose the special teams battle in the end.
