The Nashville Predators announced they have traded defenseman Ryan McDonagh to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Predators will receive a 2025 second round draft pick and a 2024 seventh round draft pick in exchange for the 34-year-old defenseman. Tampa Bay will also receive a 2024 fourth round pick in the deal.
McDonagh returns to the Lightning where he played four full seasons after being acquired from the New York Rangers at the trade deadline in 2018. In his two seasons with the Predators, McDonagh played 145 games and scored five goals and 52 points.
The move comes as the Predators look to make room on the blue line for young defensemen in the system like Spencer Stastney, Ryan Ufko, and potentially Marc Del Gaizo. Currently Alexandre Carrier remains unsigned.
Moving McDonagh also gives Nashville a but more cap space with two years left on his $6.75 million AAV contract.
