The Nashville Predators are expected to wear Pride jerseys during warmups tonight against Vegas, the team announced today.
If all players do participate in warmups, that would make the Preds one of only a handful of teams in the NHL with no holdouts. As of now, it is not known if any players will hold out from warmups due to the Pride Night promotion.
The NHL’s commitment to Pride Nights has been in question recently, with several teams and players deciding not to participate in the promotion. Philadelphia, Florida, and Buffalo all had players sit out warmups due to their refusal to wear Pride Night jerseys, while Chicago, Minnesota, and New York made a full team decision to not wear the jerseys.
Last week, Preds forward Colton Sissons indicated he planned to wear the Pride jersey.
“As far as I’m concerned, we are wearing those, the Pride jerseys,” Sissons told the media. “I can’t speak for anybody else, but I’ll be wearing it. That’s how I feel about it.”
Sissons’ comments were the first indication from any team member that Pride jerseys would be worn on Tuesday. The Predators, who have hosted Pride Nights for eight years running, have never worn Pride jerseys in warmups.
Given the news this morning, it seems likely the Preds will have full participation from their team in the promotion. Go here to find out more about the Preds’ plans for Pride Night: https://www.nhl.com/predators/fans/pride
