MTSU sweeps Eastern Kentucky University in a two-game series at home

MTSU and EKU faced off at Ford Ice Center in Antioch on Nov. 15 for their first meeting since MTSU opened their season in mid-September. In September, the two teams split the series 1-1 with MTSU claiming the victory in game two. MTSU claimed the victory in game one on Friday night with a final score of 9-5. They complete the sweep with a score of 8-6 on Saturday night. 

After game one, MTSU’S leaders showed out with Brendan Mitchell and Alexander Yarger each recording two goals. Josh Friedenberger had two goals and an assist, and Joe Puglise with a goal and two assists. Carson Brown had two assists. 

In game two, EKU struck first with a goal from Scottie Miller, but Yarger net his first goal of the night just 18 seconds following the opening goal. Carson Brown scored to give the Blue Raiders their first lead of the night. In less than two minutes, Miller evened out the score with his second of the night. Miller nets a hat trick with just 18:39 into the game and brings EKU up 3-2. With just :54 remaining in the first period, Yarger nets a powerplay goal for his second of the night to even things to 3-3.  

EKU struck first once again in the second period, but Jackson Taylor answered while with the man advantage. Captain Nathanael Wilson net a powerplay goal to make it 5-4. EKU ties things up 5-5 at the end of the second period. 

In regulation, MTSU strikes first as Brendan Mitchell nets his third goal of the series with an assist from Puglise. Less than three minutes later, EKU ties things for a 5-5 game. Jake Fink scored the game winning goal two minutes later with an assist from Mitchell. MTSU sealed the victory in game two with a goal from Corey Settle that was assisted by Mitchell. 

MTSU travels to Ole Miss for an SECHC battle on Nov. 22 and 23.
