Laviolette: Special teams was the difference

The Nashville Predators had defeated the Colorado Avalanche 11 straight times in the regular season heading into Tuesday night’s match-up. That streak was snapped by the Avalanche with their 3-2 victory over Nashville.

It was the Nathan MacKinnon show as the NHL’s second-leading point getter notched two goals in the victory. Ryan Hartman and Kevin Fiala scored for the Predators. It was Fiala’s first goal since November 12. Rocco Grimaldi played 10:14 against his former organization and Pekka Rinne was stellar for most of the game, keeping the Predators in it. Nashville put up 20 shots in the third period, but couldn’t find a way to beat goaltender Semyon Varlamov.

In the game, the Predators had three opportunities on the power play, but did not score on any of them. On the other end, the Avalanche scored on both power play opportunities they were given.

Hear from Rinne, Grimaldi, Fiala and head coach Peter Laviolette in the Ingram Agency post game video.
