One day after another disappointing loss on home ice, the Nashville Predators have made a roster move.
The Milwaukee Admirals announced on Twitter that Juuso Parssinen has been reassigned to the AHL.
Parssinen was a healthy scratch in Monday’s contest against Florida, his first scratch since December 21st against Philadelphia. He is waivers exempt, which means he will report directly to Milwaukee without having to clear waivers.
After a breakout performance last year, where he scored 25 points in 45 games for the Preds, Parssinen has struggled to remain consistent this season. He has eight goals and four assists in 44 games in a vaguely defined role under Andrew Brunette.
Though he started the year on the top line with Filip Forsberg and Ryan O’Reilly, he was replaced by Gustav Nyquist sometime at the end of October. He has since appeared on or around the bottom six of the lineup, occasionally appearing on the power play, but mostly used in a limited role.
This move is the best course of action for Parssinen. His production has dropped, his development has stagnated, and he’s losing opportunities at the NHL level.
An extended stay in the AHL, playing on a team with a lot of momentum and positive vibes (they’ve won eight straight games) should be just what he needs.
Meanwhile, the Nashville Predators now have an open roster spot at the NHL level.
