Throughout the season at home, the Nashville Predators have not had much success on the power play. Saturday night against the Philadelphia Flyers however, they netted three goals with the extra man. On the night, defenseman Roman Josi saw 3:00 on the power play and notched two assists, a primary on the first goal of the game from Filip Forsberg and a secondary on the third Nashville goal from Colin Wilson.

“We changed up a couple things and it worked tonight,” said Roman Josi on the power play. “It’s huge. You can see we won that game because of the power play. It’s huge for us that we get some goals on the power play.”

The Predators held tight to a 3-1 lead going into the third period. Even with the lead, Nashville still managed to get 11 shots on net.

“We were still trying to push and play in their end,” said Josi on the third period. “They are a skilled and offensive team, so you have to be careful with what you do out there and careful with who’s out there and who you’re playing against. You definitely want to play good defense, but you also want to play in their zone.”

The Flyers boast a potent offense lead by Jakub Voracek and Claude Giroux, holders of first and third in the league in total points, respectively. Preparing to defend against such skilled players isn’t anything knew to Predators.

“There are some good players on the Flyers,” said Josi. “They have skill with Giroux and Voracek; they’re probably the two hottest players in the league right now. It’s tough to play against them. You have to be well-prepared.”

The first game back after a long break, albeit just three days, can sometimes show rust. Nashville didn’t show any rust as they dominated the Flyers the entire night.

“It’s always a little weird,” said Josi. “When we came back this morning and go on the ice, it feels like you haven’t skated for two months. You never get that many days off without skating. We had a good practice this morning and it was the same for everyone.”

During the first period, right before a media timeout, Josi had a mishap with one of the officials. Although it didn’t change the outcome of the game, Josi still thinks the official jokingly deserved a penalty.

“That was a penalty, definitely,” said Josi with a smile. “He buried me from behind, so he should have gotten a penalty for that.”

As it’s been said in the past, Saturday night crowds in Nashville have been known to be raucous. The crowd for this game lived up to expectations.

“Oh, they were great,” said Josi. “Right from the beginning, we came out and they were loud and they were cheering. It’s just awesome playing in front of them.

Up next for the Predators is back-to-back against Chicago and St. Louis beginning Monday in Chicago and then Tuesday in Nashville. Taking on the other two teams battling for the Central Division lead will be a another good test for the team.

“We know how good of a team Chicago is and we’re going it game by game,” said Josi. “Next, we play St. Louis, but we’ll only look at Chicago right now. It’s always tough to play in the United Center. It’s going to be another tough game, but we have to make sure we do the right things and be prepared.”
