This edition of GNASH hockey featured a Monday night matchup between Hendersonville-Station Camp and Nolensville-Ravenwood2. After coming off a loss in in their previous game, both teams looked to turn their fortune around. However, Hendersonville-Station Camp’s quality scoring chances would prove to be too much for Nolensville-Ravenwood2’s defense, giving them a 7-2 victory.

The puck dropped to signal the start of the action. Hendersonville-Station Camp won the opening faceoff, and soon found the back of the net for the first score of the game. The goal by Clayton Stickel, beat Anthony Alvarez at 13:44, with an assistant from Evan Rench and Owen Garner. As play continued, it didn’t take long before both teams showed a physical presence on the ice. That physical play came with a price though, as Nolensville-Ravenwood2 found themselves in the box for boarding. While on the power play, Cross Carruth glided on his forehand while in the slot, and rang a shot off the goal post. However, they could not connect while on the power play. Nolensville-Ravenwood2’s next goal would instead come from Tyler Kimbro while on even strength. He managed to find the back of the net off of a rebound, while Alvarez was sprawled out from the previous save.

The first period fireworks weren’t over with yet however, as play rolled on. Nolensville-Ravenwood2 started to add more offensive pressure by putting shots on net. They found a great scoring chance while Ethan Dunn curled in behind the opposing goalie. His line mate Jason Jones was open in the slot, but the pass was just out of his reach. Unfortunately, for them, play went the other way after that, and Hendersonville-Station Camp’s Blake Fuqua scored to give them a 3-0 lead. As the first period was winding down, Nolensville-Ravenwood2 refused denial. At just 1:18 remaining in the period, Andrew Dunn managed to gather the puck off of a rebound, to beat Brandon Shaw for a goal. After the goal, Nolensville-Ravenwood2 won a faceoff in their offensive zone to try to score another quick goal, but Shaw blocked their efforts. Although down 3-1, Nolensville-Ravenwood2 did finish the period with a little momentum on their side. This was not only thanks to scoring the last goal, but also because of a standup defensive play by Jackson Hill that ended the rush, as well as the period.

The second period of play began with Hendersonville-Station Camp finding their way on offense yet again. They continued to cycle the puck around the offensive zone until an open shot finally presented itself. It was Tyler Kimbro who found the back of the net this time, for his second goal of the night, at 11:00. After the goal, Nolensville-Ravenwood2 showed more resolve to grind harder in their defensive zone. Ethan Dunn blocked a shot for his goalie, and took play the other way on a rush. Unfortunately, there was no one around to help him. His resolve led him to another steal though, as well as a shot on net, but Brandon Shaw was up to the task in his crease.

Nolensville-Ravenwood2 continued with their efforts to patch things up defensively, as Jackson Hill chased down an attacker and stretched out across the ice to block the passing lane. But that would not stop the next attack however, as Owen Garner soon tallied his third point of the night, on a goal at 2:32. As the puck dropped on the next faceoff, Hendersonville-Station Camp soon scored another goal, just nineteen seconds later. Blake Fuqua’s backhand pass led to Alexander Yarger’s goal in-close. That goal gave Hendersonville-Station Camp a 6-1 lead, which they took into the third period.

Nolensville began the third period with a shortened power play, and they looked to capitalize on it. They won the opening faceoff and went to work. But play was slowed down against the boards though, putting an end to their man-advantage.  Although not being able to score while on the advantage, they persevered on their attack. After initially missing his shot over the net, Ethan Dunn was able to collect his own rebound and headed again toward the crease. A defenseman laid out to block off the passing lane, so Dunn decided to take another shot himself. This time he took a shot on his forehand side, beating Shaw over the shoulder. Play continued as both teams fought for possession in neutral zone battles. Jackson Hill tried to find another quick goal for Nolensville-Ravenwood2, while on the power play. He skated down low and took a shot his backhand, while going cross-crease. Shaw was able to get a blocker on it though. The final goal of the evening would instead come from Hendersonville-Station Camp, while shorthanded. That goal came on a breakaway, as Brodie Ruffing was able to score far-side, above Alvarez’ shoulder. That gave Hendersonville-Station Camp a 7-2 lead, as well as the victory.
