The Hendersonville/Station Camp Commandos had the third-highest scoring offense in the Greater Nashville Areas Scholastic Hockey league in 2017. Add in an expanded co-op with Beech High School, and the Commandos are sure to be at the top of the league in offense again this season.

That offense was on full display Monday night at Centennial Sportsplex as HHS/SC/BHS beat Franklin/Hume-Fogg 6-0.

“I was a little concerned early in the game, we had a lot of shots on net and just weren’t finishing,” Hendersonville coach Tim Rathert said. “I thought Franklin did a great job, they were clearing rebounds and their goaltender played great early on. I think it was just sheer volume after a while that let us put pucks in the back of the net.”

The Commandos controlled the pace of the game from the opening whistle, using a relentless attack in every zone, smothering the Franklin/Hume-Fogg defenders and winning the puck battles.

Blake Fuqua got the Commandos on the board 10:48 into the game, taking a Tyler Kimbro pass and slamming it home past Franklin/Hume-Fogg goalie Christopher Dickens. Clayton Stickel also assisted on the play.

Holding a 1-0 lead to start the second period, Stickel extended the lead to 2-0 on an unassisted snipe 11:29 into the period. Fuqua tallied his second of the night right before the end of the period, assisted by Stickel and Emma Knoll.

“As the game wore on, I went deeper and deeper into our bench,” Rathert said. “Most of our practices, we’re just getting up and down. So, our conditioning, using the whole bench and getting everybody in the game helped.”

In the final period, Kimbro, Alex Yarger and Brodie Ruffing all added goals, while Fuqua, Conrad Murphy and Colson Leonard all tallied assists. Starting goaltender Brandon Shaw was sharp, stopping all 15 shots he faced, while backup Sean Gonzalez stopped all six shots he saw for the combined shutout.
