Father Ryan 3, MBA 2
After their first meeting ended in a tie, Father Ryan fought its way back from blowing a two-goal lead to hand MBA its first loss of the season with a 3-2 win Wednesday night.
The Irish took an early 2-0 lead in the first period and appeared to be in cruise control Ryan Prim scored at 9:03 for the early 1-0 lead before Peter Faulkner scored on the power play to push the Father Ryan lead to 2-0.
MBA would not go quietly, answering with two second-period goals by Brandon MacDonald-Surman to knot it 2-2.
The third period became a defensive battle, with neither team looking to give an inch of ice. Father Ryan scored the eventual game-winning goal with 2:40 left in the game when Prim again found the back of the net. The only blemishes on MBA’s record this season – a loss and a tie – have both come against Father Ryan.
“It’s huge for our confidence,” said Father Ryan assistant coach Dillon Caffrey, who was filling in for head coach Thomas Bernstein. “In the locker room, it just re-affirmed to them that they can do it, they can push themselves all the way. Even the tie (earlier in the season against MBA) was a big victory for us.”
Hendersonville-Station Camp-Beech 3, Ravenwood 2
The Commandos moved into a first-place tie with MBA following their 3-2 win over Ravenwood on Wednesday.
Colson Leonard got HHS-SC-BHS on the board minutes into the first period beating Ravenwood goalie Logan Verpoort for the early 1-0 lead.
Ravenwood evened things up with a minute left in the period as Liam Hussey sprung a shorthanded breakaway and chipped one in on a misplay by Commando goalie Brandon Shaw that was more or less an own goal.
In the second period, Leonard struck again to push the HHS-SC-BHS lead to 2-1, assisted by Blake Fuqua and Andrew Siciliano.
In the third period, the Commandos took a two-goal lead when Alex Yarger slammed one past Verpoort for the 3-1 advantage before Hussey netted his second of the game on another breakaway with 3:20 remaining. Verpoort saved 29 of 32 shots, while Shaw stopped 10 of 12.
“We got the win and at the end of the day that’s what you remember,” HHS-SC-BHS coach Tim Rathert said. “I thought (Ravenwood) did an outstanding job defensively and I don’t think we responded very well necessarily. It’s always better go move forward on a positive than a loss.”
Ensworth-Nolensville 4, BA-FRA-Lipscomb Academy 4
NASHVILLE – Ensworth-Nolensville and Brentwood Academy-FRA-Lipscomb Academy battled to a 4-4 tie Monday night at Centennial Sportsplex.
The first period was back and forth as BA-FRA-LA took a 1-0 lead at 6:29 on a shorthanded goal by Christian Sorenson, assisted by Samuel Hagan.
Ensworth-Nolensville responded four minutes later with a power play goal by Ethan Dunn, assisted by Zachary Caddo and Dalton Davis.
BA-FRA-LA capitalized on some momentum midway through the second period, scoring two goals in a minute and a half span from Hagan and Sorenson to push the lead to 3-1.
However, Ensworth-Nolensville answered with a little over three minutes left in the period on an Andrew Dunn goal to close the deficit to 3-2.
BA-FRA-LA regained its two-goal lead moments into the third period when Hagan scored his second of the game for a 4-2 lead, only to see Ensworth-Nolensville storm back with two third-period goals by Ethan Dunn and Dewitt Thompson to knot it 4-4 as both teams settled for the tie.
TN Outlaws 3, Centennial-Page 2
Tennessee Outlaws goalie Brent Kitchens stole the show on Wednesday night, making 41 saves on 43 shots as the Outlaws took a 3-2 win over Centennial-Page.
Paxton Brown got the scoring started with 3:55 left in the first period when he slipped one past Centennial-Page goalie Theodore Strunce for the 1-0 lead. He was assisted by Anthony Fowler and Michael Slade.
Centennial-Page answered back with 8:15 left in the second period on a Liam Smith goal to tie it 1-1. Then, with a little over two minutes remaining, the Outlaws re-took the lead on a Gage Coon goal, and extended that lead to 3-1 when Fowler scored with just two seconds left in the period.
In the third, Theodore Whitaker pulled Centennial-Page to within 3-2 but that was as close as they would get as the Outlaws finished off the win.
BA-FRA-LA 3, USN-DCA-MLK 1
After being held scoreless in the first period, BA-FRA-LA responded with a goal in the second and two in the third to take a 3-1 win over USN-DCA-MLK on Wednesday.
Joseph Orem put USN-DCA-MLK up 1-0 minutes into the first period with an unassisted goal. BA-FRA-LA evened it up in the second period with a power play goal from Boone Callis, assisted by Samuel Hagan.
In the third period, BA-FRA-LA began to pull away. Hagan scored four minutes into the period for a 2-1 lead, assisted by Avery Fields and Griffin Cropp. USN-DCA-MLK tried to claw back into it, pulling the goalie for the extra attacker.
However, the plan backfired as Brady Davis scored an empty-net goal to seal the 3-1 win for BA-FRA-LA.
