Here at Penalty Box Radio we have so much to be thankful for, but there are others in need and we want to do our part to help.
Last week we brought you the story of NFD Hockey raising money for Nashville Fire Department EMT Maria Pothast. Maria was diagnosed with cancer and the team wanted to do what it could to help raise money for her family and treatments. A charity game was played versus South Bend Fire Department with 100% of proceeds being donated. We can officially announce that the event raised $8,730.
This week, while most of us will be celebrating (American) Thanksgiving or out in the hustle and bustle of shopping, a group of veterans are highlighting the plight of our homeless vets. From 6:00 P.M on Thanksgiving Day until 6:00 P.M on Saturday, November 29th, members of the United States Military Vets Motorcycle Club will be camping out in the parking lot of H3O Aquatics in Murfreesboro. The event is designed to raise awareness for homeless veterans as, 1 in 4 homeless individuals are veterans with a majority being honorably discharged. During the camp out event, they will also be accepting donations of canned food, personal goods including clothing, and money. All donations received will go to benefit Operation: Stand Down, an organization committed to helping honorably discharged veterans and their families. Finally, from all of the Penalty Box Radio family, to all of your families, we want to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!
