For the first time in the history of the Nashville Predators history, the organization has pushed a playoff series to a game seven. With a 3-1 victory over the Ducks at Bridgestone Arena, the Preds have made history. Game one and two in Anaheim was the formula for success against the Anaheim Ducks. The team must focus on a physical brand of hockey, winning battles in the corners, winning face-offs, and a strong defensive effort. The Preds were able to replicate their performance in game six with a decisive victory on home ice. With the series pushed to California, it is now time for the Preds to use that same approach and move on to round two with a win against the Ducks in game seven.
Front Line Production
On Monday night, the Preds were able to get production from James Neal and Ryan Johansen. One particular play was on a 2-1 breakaway with Johansen with the puck. He was able to make a beautiful pass to Neal for the easy score. The Preds need those two players to increase their production, but also need Filip Forsberg to add into the scoring column. Forsberg has played well but is struggling to get on the scoresheet. If these three players get opportunities and bury their chances, it could be a big night for the Nashville Predators.
The Importance of Rinne
The Nashville Predators live and die by the performance of Pekka Rinne. When he plays well, including games one, two, and six, the Predators are effective on the ice and are a very dangerous team. In the Predators victories in the playoffs this season, Rinne has 1.67 goals against average, allowed five goals out of 85 shots, and .941 save percentage. If the Predators are going to move on to the next round of the playoffs, the Preds will need Rinne to be as dominate as he was on Monday night. The season is at stake and his performance will hinge on Nashville playing the San Jose Sharks in round two.
