Game Preview: Preds vs Sabres

On Friday afternoon, the Nashville Predators travelled to Philadelphia to take on the Flyers for an early afternoon contest.

Filip Forsberg was able to get the Preds on the board first with his third goal of the year at 1:44 of the first period.

The Flyers were able to respond quickly as Michael Del Zotto got a shot past Pekka Rinne at 4:00 to tie the game up 1-1 after the first period.

The second period had zero scoring, so the game would remain tied going into the third period.

The Flyers drew first as Colin McDonald scored his first goal of the season to put the Flyers up 2-1.

With time running out, the Preds needed to tie things up and they were able to when Mike Fisher scored his second in as many games to send the game to overtime.

In the overtime, Nashville was called for too many men on the ice. Coach Peter Laviolette and the coaching staff of the Preds went ballistic, but the call would stand.

At 4:08, Shane Gostisbehere scored his third of the season to give Philadelphia a 3-2 victory.

Nashville will have a quick turnaround as they make it back to Bridgestone Arena to take on the Buffalo Sabres for the second time this week.

In their last outing, the Sabres defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 4-1 on Friday.

Keys to Watch

Finally back!

I believe that I’m not the only one to say this but it’s good to have the Preds back in Nashville. The recent road trip (1-3-1) was not kind to the Predators, with only three out of a possible ten points. The Preds will look to rebound tonight as they welcome in the Sabres. These two teams faced off on Wednesday and the Preds won 3-2. The Loyal Legion will need to welcome the team back as only Smashville is able to!

Jack Eichel

The second pick of last year’s draft has been as anticipated this season. Currently, Eichel has seven goals, four assists, and 11 points on the season. He plays extremely well and has a bright future ahead in the NHL. Nashville will need to keep tabs on him. Eichel has scored in his last two games and is looking to go on a run for his squad.

Positive signs

The Nashville Predators offensive production had been lacking recently, especially the play of Filip Forsberg. Forsberg started off the season strong but only had two goals on the season until the matchup with Philadelphia. Forsberg should of had two goals but one rang off the post. It’s a very good sign for the Nashville offense that Forsberg is getting quality shots and opportunities to score. Look for Forsberg to have another strong outing tonight against the Sabres.

Note: This morning, the Nashville Predators recalled forward Viktor Arvidsson and goaltender Juuse Saros.

Tonight, the Preds will begin a three-game home stand against the Sabres. Be sure to catch all of the action on Fox Sports-Tennessee or you can listen live on 102.5 The Game.

Puck drops at 7:00 pm!
