Playoff Implications

Tonight’s match-up between the Predators and the Flames will have playoff implications and seeding. With ten games remaining, the Predators are sitting in the final Wild Card spot with 83 total points, eight points ahead of the Los Angeles Kings for that last playoff seed. The Calgary Flames are in the first Wild Card spot with 86 points, yet only one point out of the third spot in the Pacific Division. Nashville and Calgary will both be looking to move up in the standings with a win tonight. With only ten games remaining, every point matters.

The Calgary Flames have been one of the best teams in the NHL over the past twenty games going an impressive 17-4-1 on their recent run. Sean Monahan (24 goals, 26 assists) and Johnny Gaudreau (16 goals, 37 assists) have been hot of late, leading the club offensively over recently and over the length of the season. The Predators defensive corps will need to be on top of their game to get the victory tonight.

Tenacity of Arvidsson

Going into the 2016-17 season, most believed that the Predators would depend upon the scoring of James Neal, Filip Forsberg, and Ryan Johansen. Most would not have predicted the Continuum Planning Partnersascendancy of Viktor Arvidsson as an offensive threat. In 56 games last season, Arvidsson had eight goals and eight assists. Now, this season, through 70 games, the Skellefteå, Sweeden native has 27 goals and 26 assists. The rest of the team could look at Arvidsson’s tenacity and hard work as an example leading into the playoffs.

Tonight, the Predators will look to move up the standings and continue their homestand with a victory against the Calgary Flames. Be sure to catch all of the action on Fox Sports-Tennessee or you can listen live on 102.5 The Game. Puck drops at 7:00pm!
