Comparison: Shots Against
In preparation for tonight’s Central Division match-up against the Blues, one statistic that jumped out was the comparison of each team’s ability to get shots on net, and in some cases, lack of shots. Most observers of the Nashville Predators realize that the Preds have a propensity to get shots on net. Currently, the Preds are ranked 11th in the NHL with 30.8 shots on net per contest. On the other hand, the St. Louis Blues are ranked 28th in the NHL with 26.6 shots per match-up. The Predators have the opportunity to end this three-game road trip and win a much needed inter-division match. Keep an eye on the shot-tracker as tonight’s match-up progresses.
Continuing Rinne’s Success
The Nashville Predators have been riding their recent success on the back of Pekka Rinne. Since Election Day, the Nashville net-minder has allowed three goals over four games, one shootout, .974 save percentage, and 0.75 goals-against average. Most of the success can go to his outstanding play, but also the play in front of him by fellow teammates. If the Predators are going to continue having success with Rinne in net, the defense must play well. Keep check on if Rinne is catching the puck, or if he is allowing lots of rebounds. If he catches the puck on a consistent basis, it could be a good night for Nashville.
Johansen Getting on Track
Early on this season, Ryan Johansen had been a flop. Until the game on November 12th against Anaheim, Johansen only had one goal and five assists. Since the game against the Ducks, the Vancouver, BC native has a point in three consecutive games. Granted, the Predators need more offensive scoring from Johansen, but his scoring is picking up and the Predators need him to continue creating offense.
