Filip Forsberg’s outstanding play in the month of March has earned him a special nod from the NHL.
On Tuesday, the NHL named Forsberg the Third Star of the Month after his outstanding performance in March. In Nashville’s thirteen games last month, the 29-year-old recorded a point or more in all but one game and set several franchise records in the process.
In March, Forsberg set a new franchise record seven game goal streak, scoring eight goals from March 13 – March 28. On March 7 against the Buffalo Sabres, Forsberg recorded his ninth career hat trick, another franchise mark, and in the comeback win on March 26 against the Vegas Golden Knights Forsberg scored his 40th goal on the season making him the first Nashville Predator in history to reach that scoring milestone twice.
His 12 goals, 13 assists, and 23 points in March landed him second in the league in goals scored and fifth in points during the month. Forsberg also scored three game winning goals for the Preds.
Forsberg’s performance has been an important piece in Nashville’s franchise record setting 18 game consecutive point streak that ended March 28 against the Arizona Coyotes. The top line of Forsberg, Ryan O’Reilly, and Gustav Nyquist combined for 22 goals and 51 points during the month and helped Nashville outscore their March opponents 50-36.
Connor McDavid was named the First Star of the Month, and Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon was named Second Star of the Month.
