The Admirals snapped a two game losing streak with the help of goalie Magnus Hellberg, who stopped 25 out of 26 shots from the Chicago Wolves Sunday afternoon at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
Viktor Stalberg, Felix Girard, Colton Sissons, and Michael Liambas each tallied a goal for an Admirals win over the Wolves 4-1.
Both Hellberg and Matt Climie stopped all 8 shots from each team resulting in a scoreless first period.
Stalberg was the first to score a power play goal for the Ads at 8:47 into the second period. Viktor Arvidsson faked the slapper, found Stalberg on the far pipe, and he tapped it in. Girard picked up a rebound off Climie and sunk it in at 10:58 of the second to give the Ads a 2-0 lead.
At 16:04 of third period, Colton Sissons strengthened the Admirals lead to 3-0. Stalberg centered the puck for Sissons and shot it past Climie inside the far pipe. The Wolves lone goal came from Terry Broadhurst with just 1:03 left in the third on a 6 on 4 power play. The period came to an end with an empty net goal from Liambas at 19:34 for a final score of 4-1 Admirals.
Arvidsson and Brendan Leipsic both recorded two assists, as well as Rich Clune with his first assist for the Ads.
The team is definitely benefitting from having Stalberg and Clune up in Milwaukee.
“Both were real good tonight. Real good. They were physical. They had energy. The line Clune, Pendenza, and Liambas were the difference in the hockey game,” said head coach Dean Evason. “Stalberg has gotten better with every game. Clearly he has speed but he went to the net and found opportunities to score. That is what Nashville wants from him”
“Clune came here right away and spoke to the group and said he’s not here to just put his time in. He’s here to help, be a part of the team, and to play the right way and he has backed up his words,” said Evason. “He’s been there. He’s battled. He’s been through these situations to get to the NHL and that’s what all these guys want to do. To be able to watch and learned from a guy like that is great. Every time a guy comes down, they come with the right attitude.”
“At the end of the day I am here. I just want to dedicate myself to the guys and the coach here and that’s all I’m thinking about. I’m going to lay it all on the line and just keep getting better,” said Clune.
The Admirals are back home again on Friday, November 7th at 7pm vs. the Grand Rapids Griffins.
