Admirals extend winning streak to six

The Milwaukee Admirals have extended their winning streak to six games after a 3-1 victory over the San Antonio Rampage. The Admirals have picked up a point in the last nine as they continue their quest for a playoff spot. They currently sit tied for fourth in the Central division with the Manitoba Moose and are now only 2-points out of third (currently held by the Iowa Wild) who are on a seven game losing streak.

The first period of Wednesday night’s contest was silent besides four separate minor penalties being called in the last six minutes of the period. A tripping penalty at 18:31 on Tyler Gaudet carried over into the second period which allowed San Antonio’s Joey LaLeggia to score just 17 seconds into the second.

San Antonio’s lead only lasted about six minutes as Colin Blackwell was able to tie the game at one at 6:29 with his 13th goal of the season, beating San Antonio netminder Evan Fitzpatrick.

Captain Jarred Tinordi gave the Admirals the lead with one second left in the period when he fired a third consecutive rebound shot on Fitzpatrick in front of the net. Laurent Dauphin (23) and Cole Schneider (23) both had assists on the Tinordi goal.

Fate would not go the Rampage’s way as they had to delay pulling their goalie due to being called for a too many men on the ice bench minor at 17:41 in the third period. Once San Antonio did pull Fitzpatrick in favor of an extra attacker, it was too late. Cole Schneider was able to score his 19th goal of the season on the empty net with four seconds remaining in the game to secure the victory.

Game Notes:

The Admirals have really turned it on during this last stretch of the season. The question now is whether they can sustain this throughout the last five games of the season? With the way Manitoba and Texas have both been playing it sure seems like Milwaukee will need to continue to win the remaining five games.

Who would have thought that third place would become a viable option for the Admirals? With Iowa currently working a seven game losing streak, it is quite possible that the Admirals could find themselves sitting in third by the end of Saturday night.

Milwaukee’s last games are against the Chicago Wolves, Iowa Wild, Rockford twice, and Grand Rapids. The Admirals have beaten all of these teams during their six game winning streak.

Cole Schneider has extended his point streak to five games with both an assist and a goal in Wednesday’s matchup. He has been very fun to watch.

Zac Rinaldo did make his Admirals debut on Wednesday as well. He is on a conditioning assignment after a long injury. He had one shot on goal and served a two-minute boarding minor in the second.

The Admirals will continue their playoff hunt on Friday night against the first place Chicago Wolves.
