Update July 1, 2024 – the Nashville Predators confirmed a 3 year, $11.25M ($3.75M AAV) contract extension with Alexandre Carrier.
In a somewhat unexpected turn of events on the eve of free agency, TSN and The Athletic insider Pierre LeBrun revealed that the Nashville Predators are close to re-signing right handed defenseman Alexandre Carrier. Carrier’s agent and the Predators front office had been in contract negotiations for some time, as general manager Barry Trotz has noted, but it seemed as though Carrier was headed for unrestricted free agency on July 1st.
Carrier, a 27 year old former 4th round pick, has spent his entire career in the Predators organization and is coming off a 1 year, $2.5M contract signed at the outset of free agency in 2023. In the 2023-24 season Carrier played 73 games and notched 4 goals and 20 points playing largely alongside Ryan McDonagh and Jeremy Lauzon. Primarily an offensively-minded defenseman in the early portion of his career, Carrier has evolved his game into playing more of a shutdown role the past two seasons. With McDonagh traded and Tyson Barrie entering free agency Carrier could have an opportunity to regain some of his offensive contributions manning the point position on the Predators’ second power play unit.
The Nashville Predators have not yet released confirmation of the contract and terms are undisclosed as of this writing.
