Jeannot earns Gordie Howe Hat Trick in 5-4 win

The Nashville Predators returned to Bridgestone Arena following a three-game road trip to host the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday night. The Predators are 13-11-(3)-3 all-time against the Flyers, including a 7-4-(2)-1 record at Bridgestone Arena. The two teams have not met in Nashville since January 1, 2019. In their last meeting earlier this month, the Flyers claimed a 5-4 victory.

The Flyers are currently without former Predator Ryan Ellis who has been ruled out due to a lower body injury. The defenseman only competed in four games after being traded in the offseason.

With just 2:55 into the game, Philadelphia’s Travis Sanheim claimed the lead. Sanheim’s goal marked his 6th goal in 64 games played.

With 2:33 left in the first period, the Flyers pushed a 2-0 lead. Cam Atkinson found Joel Farabee to push past Juuse Saros. Atkinson leads his club in points with 50 (23g, 26a) and Farabee’s 15th goal of the season pushes him to 32 points.

The Nashville Predators got on the scoreboard after defenseman Roman Josi received the puck from Tanner Jeannot. Josi entered the zone, wrapped behind goaltender Martin Jones, and launched a shot from the blue line. Yakov Trenin’s stick finds the shot and sends it past Jones with 19:19 left in the second period.

Roman Josi continues to lead the Preds in points with 80 (18g-62a). The captain made a new career high as he extended his point streak to 13 games. His 12-game point streak was set from Dec. 16, 2019 – Jan. 9, 2020.

It wasn’t long before Max Willman had the opportunity for a breakaway and answered with a goal of his own, making it 3-1.

After a 2v1, Trenin found his second goal of the night with an assist from Mikael Granlund. Granlund controlled the puck before sending a last-minute pass to Trenin at the front door of Jones. This marks Trenin’s second multi-point outing in his last five games.

Granlund earned his 50th point of the season and second of the night when he found Luke Kunin to make a 3-3 game in the second period.

Filip Forsberg found his team their first lead of the game as he made it 4-3. Matt Duchene (34g, 33a) found the stick of Alexandre Carrier who sent the puck toward Jones. Forsberg was able to redirect the shot for his new career best of 65 points and 37th goal of the season. Duchene owns 15 points (8g-7a) in 18 career games vs. Philadelphia.

James van Reimsdyk followed with a goal of his own for his second point of the night to tie things up once again at 4-4.

Third period action saw the Preds game-winning goal from Jeannot as he earned a Gordie Howe hat trick after missing the last game for the birth of his first-born child.
