With the 148th pick overall, the Nashville Predators selected goaltender Ethan Haider in the 5th round of the 2019 NHL Draft. Haider was not present at the draft in Vancouver, but we were able to catch up with him on day one of development camp.

Haider spent last season with the Minnesota Magicians of the North American Hockey League. He’s also committed to Clarkson University for the 2020-21 season. Stats and scouting report below.

left his highly talented Maple Grove High School team in Minnesota to make the move to Junior hockey to suit up for the Magicians. Haider got off to a rough start with Team USA at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup where he struggled but eventually settled into his game with the Magicians and was among the best goalies in the NAHL throughout the course of the season. Ethan put up a respectable 2.35 GAA and .926 Sv% in 37 Regular Season starts for the Magicians. Haider has high end technical skills when he is locked in and on his game but struggles with consistency in being able to string together starts at this stage. An aggressive goaltender, Haider plays bigger than his size in the net, especially in his lateral movements where his head height and posture stays level. Haider has good athleticism and competes hard in traffic to find and cover loose pucks. Haider controls the top of the crease; he competes for the ice he is entitled to well.

Haider showed in multiple viewings of being able to lock things down after giving up a goal early. He is able to shake off bad goals and give his team an opportunity after a rough start which also speaks to his high compete. Haider brings a good attitude to the rink and a strong work ethic both on and off the ice. Haider is committed to Clarkson University in the ECAC but will likely spend one more season in Junior hockey before heading to Potsdam.
