ashton-remax_NEWIt’s safe to say this year that Montgomery Bell Academy’s identity has been scoring goals. Lots of them.

That trend continued Monday, as The Big Red netted 10 goals against Mt. Juliet en route to a 10-0 victory at the Centennial Sportsplex. The win puts MBA in third place in the current GNASH standings, tied with Hendersonville in points (17) and three behind first place Brentwood (20).

The 10-goal tally also put MBA at 88 total goals on the season, by far the most amount any team has amassed so far this season. MBA has also had three games where 10 different players have scored. MBA coach Tim Kovick credits his senior group for being such a strong offensive juggernaut.

“We have a lot of seniors in this group. They know where they’re supposed to be, and how each are are going to play,” said Kovick.

“We played some of the tougher teams at the beginning of the year. We were kind of a goal-scoring machine there for awhile, until we ran into some adversity. We were going at such a high click at the beginning of the year, that even when we made mistakes, we were still scoring goals.”

Robert Cowan was the man of the hour this night, scoring four goals. B. Surman-MacDonald also netted two. Josh Morris, John Dinkins, and Joshua Morin also got in on the goal-scoring action.

“We walked into a buzz saw,” said Mt Juliet coach Jasen Riherd.

“(They were) a talented, focused, and well-coached team. We need to be more competitive and win races to the puck.”

MBA will play next against Independence-Summit Jan. 24 at Centennial Sportsplex, while Mt. Juliet faces Father Ryan Jan. 22, which will also be played at Centennial.
