ashton-remax_NEWThe JPII-CPA Knights picked up their first win of the season Friday night, disposing of Franklin-Hume Fogg 7-3 at the Ford Ice Center in Antioch.

The Knights dominated the first period, en route to a 4-0 lead at the first intermission. JPII peppered Franklin-Hume Fogg goalie Sean Gonzalez with several first-period shots. Forward Benjamin Ennis got the scoring started at 11:40 – his third of the season.

Less than five minutes later, forward Tommy Chunchukov put JPII-CPA up 2-0 on a feed from Jacob Harrison. Near the end of the first, forward Michael Singelyn put JPII-CPA up 3-0 on the power play with assists from Brendan Sullivan and Maxwell Galpin. The Knights weren’t done there, making it 4-0 moments before the period ended on a goal from Galpin.

JPII-CPA extended its lead to 6-0 in the second on a power play goal from Chunchukov, his second of the game, and Connor Bennett. Samuel Howell got Franklin-Hume Fogg on the board in the final minute of the second with a short-handed goal.

Up 6-1 to start the third, assistant captain Dylan Guy made it 7-1 on JPII-CPA’s third power play goal of the game. John Stone added two goals for Franklin-Hume Fogg, but the damage was already done and JPII-CPA celebrated its first win of the year.


Chunchukov led JPII-CPA with two goals, while Galpin, Ennis, Singelyn, Guy and Bennett all chipped in a goal. Galpin had two assists, while Ennis, Sullivan and Harrison all added an assist. JPII-CPA goalie Garrett Bennett saved 20 of the 23 shots he faced.

John Stone had two goals for Franklin-Hume Fogg and Samuel Howell had the other. Max Linn added two assists on Stone’s goals. Gonzalez saved 17 of the 24 shots he faced.


“Excellent team effort,” JPII-CPA assistant captain Benny Ennis said. “(We) moved the puck north and south, which created scoring opportunities. Garrett Bennett provided us with quality goaltending, which is needed to win games in this league. The hard work we have been putting in at practice showed up in the game tonight.”

“(I’m) very proud of every member of our team tonight,” JPII-CPA head coach Justin Clark added. “We found a way to capitalize on our opportunities. All around team effort, everybody contributed to the victory. Looking forward to keeping the momentum in our game next Friday night.”

JPII’s next game is Friday against Centennial-Page at Ford Ice Center on the north rink. Puck drop is set for 5:45. Franklin-Hume Fogg play tonight against Lipscomb-Brentwood Academy at Centennial SportsplexB at 7 p.m.
